Thank you very much for your explanations and references , they have clarified my doubts.
These days I have only the cameras with me so I cannot try the navigation part ; launching Rtabmap I find these two topics

/rtabmap/cloud_ground
/rtabmap/cloud_obstacles

Are they corresponding to the ones you referenced in your answer ?

/obstacles_cloud
/ground_cloud
