zed stereocamera windows10

alberto tidon
Hi, I am trying to use a ZED stereo camera combined with RTABmap-windows10 for the production of 3D models of interiors and exteriors of buildings but currently I have not obtained good results. What puzzles me is that the use of the RTAB map application for android installed on Lenovo Phab2Pro smartphone equipped with TANGO technology, generates much denser and more orderly meshes and point clouds, despite the limited computing power. Given that I don't have programming knowledge, is there any easy way (for basic users) to get better results from the zed-rtab combination?
Thanks so much

Hi,

you are comparing 2 different technologies. ZED camera is a stereo camera while the phab2pro uses a TOF camera. For accurate indoor 3D reconstruction, you will have much better results with TOF cameras.

For the exteriors of buildings, TOF often won't work well outdoor if there is direct sunlight and range is also limited, in comparison to stereo camera.

By the way, there is an ongoing beta of RTAB-MAp for iOS if you have an iphone/iPad with LiDAR sensor. The most user friendly for someone not having programming knowledge is to use RTAB-Map app for Tango phone (Lenovo Phab2Pro, Asus Zenfone AR) or iphone/iPad with Lidar.

cheers,
Mathieu
